1 Chome-1-1 Shirokanedai, Minato City, Tokyo 108-007101 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A kaiseki meal at Kochūan might begin with steamed yuzu, followed by pressed golden eye snapper sushi, snow crab shinjo and sashimi of yellowtail, bluefin tuna and flounder. The courses let diners savour seasonal ingredients one dish at a time. In one dinner menu, grilled Nanatani duck was followed by a hot pot of grouper and vegetables, then udon in grouper broth. Ending with noodles made with the same fish broth after the hot pot makes for a memorable progression. Dessert may include Kochūan anmitsu, a welcome sweet finish to the meal.
A separate lunch menu has featured roast beef, matsutake mushroom soup served in a small teapot and nigiri sushi. Menus change with the seasons, so the ingredients available at the time of your visit are part of the appeal. Other listed options include white fish with sweet-and-sour sauce and temari sushi with mountain vegetables and garnishes. Diners have also mentioned enjoying the garden views during their meal. Private rooms are available, making Kochūan an option for a relaxed gathering such as a family introduction or celebration. Reservations are available and recommended for both lunch and dinner.
